Australia’s healthcare data security is sick – but there is a cure

Image
If you ever want to find out what sorts of data cyber-criminals are targeting, there's a simple rule; follow the money. And some of the most valuable commodities threat actors are looking for comes from the healthcare sector. As hospitals, medical practitioners and allied health professionals digitise more of their systems and workflow, and people use more wearable devices to monitor and improve their health, the amount of data that is being exposed is growing. In Australia, the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) publishes a report every six months detailing the most common types of data breaches and which sectors are targeted. Health service providers reported the most breaches in the latest report, and that number has risen for every period the report has been issued. Almost half of those breaches were the result of malicious activity or criminal acts, according to the OAIC. Right across the Asia Pacific region, we are seeing attacks that specifically atta...

Zynga Hack Reveals Personal Information Of 200 Million Accounts

Mobile giant Zynga has acknowledged a data breach by "outside hackers" that has reportedly resulted in the personal information of 200 million accounts becoming exposed. In a statement , Zynga said cyber attacks are "one of the unfortunate realities of doing business today." The FarmVille and Words With Friends studio said it recently became aware that "certain player account information" might have been "illegally" obtained by hackers. The San Francisco-based company said it launched an investigation "immediately" and brought on outside forensic teams to help. Additionally, Zynga said it has been in contact with law enforcement officials regarding the breach. Zynga said it believes no financial information was obtained in the hack, though some "account information" was exposed. The company said it already launched security campaigns on behalf of accounts that might have been compromised, and right now seems like a good tim...

The Last Of Us 2's Companions Can Do Much More This Time

When looking at the recent trailer for The Last of Us Part II , it's clear that Ellie is in for a tough fight against the new threat coming from the Wolves. Add Clickers on top and there's certainly a lot for her to deal with. But she won't always be alone in her struggle as, just like in the original game, Ellie will encounter a variety of characters who will join her on her journey. Unique characters are part of what made The Last of Us such a stellar game from a storytelling perspective. However, it was a common occurrence during combat situations that companion characters weren't as helpful as they could have been. In The Last of Us Part II, the developers at Naughty Dog wanted to address this concern from the original. Speaking with The Last of Us Part II co-director Anthony Newman, he explained why allies would have a more significant impact during combat in the sequel. "I can't get too much into the exact ratio of time you spend alone. I'd say the...

New El Camino: Breaking Bad Movie Trailer Shows Another Returning Character

The Breaking Bad movie, El Camino, is almost here. As such, Netflix is making sure everyone on the planet is aware of that. Following the full-length trailer, Netflix has now released a more intimate, character-focused teaser video that shines a little more light on the mysterious movie. The new "Go For Joe" teaser video re-introduces viewers to Old Joe from the salvage yard. As viewers may recall, Joe helped Walter and Jesse out of tight spots numerous times over the course of Breaking Bad with his own crooked manoeuvrings. In El Camino, Jesse is on the run, and it appears Jesse will turn to Joe for some help yet again. Actor Larry Hankin (Escape From Alcatraz, Friends) is back as Joe, and he receives a heavy phone call. After picking up with his trademark and exuberant, "Go for Joe," his demeanour immediately changes when he realizes he is speaking to, presumably, Albuqueque's most wanted man, Jesse Pinkman. "Yeah, I know who this is. At this point, wh...

Joker Movie Director Responds To Criticisms -- "Outrage Is A Commodity"

One of 2019's most anticipated films, Joker, opens in the cinemas this week behind great reviews, bad reviews, controversy, and more. Director Todd Phillips has now weighed in, again, on the discourse surrounding the movie. He told The Wrap that he's been surprised to see the reaction to Joker coming across in some circles as negative. The discourse surrounding Joker has some people talking about and confronting big issues like gun violence and more. "I'm surprised… Isn't it good to have these discussions? Isn't it good to have these discussions about these movies, about violence? Why is that a bad thing if the movie does lead to a discourse about it?" Phillips said. The director went on to talk about why he thinks people are eager to pile on to Joker. "I think it's because outrage is a commodity," he said. "I think it's something that has been a commodity for a while. What's outstanding to me in this discourse in this movie i...

Destiny 2's Frustrating "Pinnacle" Weapon Grinds Are Going Bye-Bye

For some time now in Destiny 2, "pinnacle weapons" have numbered among the game's ultimate prizes. These weapons were obtained through lengthy, often frustrating quests that involved copious amounts of grinding, required plenty of skill, and even needed a little luck in most cases. The rewards were generally worth it--from Luna's Howl to Mountaintop to Recluse and beyond, Destiny 2's pinnacle weapons have almost all been top-tier guns for any activity in the game. But with Destiny 2: Shadowkeep , the looming expansion that will kick off Destiny 2's Season of the Undying, pinnacle weapons are going away. Of course, if you've already earned an existing pinnacle weapon, you'll be able to continue using it. But Bungie confirmed in today's "This Week at Bungie" post --the last before Shadowkeep's launch on October 1--that Destiny 2 won't feature any new pinnacle weapons going forward. This is a big change, as previously, each new seas...
