Apple rumored to launch 2018 MacBook Air with 8th-gen Intel processor

Whether it’s going to keep the MacBook Air moniker or amalgamate into the MacBook 12-inch line, rumors are mounting for a 2018 refresh of an affordable, lightweight notebook from Apple. The MacBook Air’s current model is sports a relatively archaic 5th-generation Intel processor, but reports from Taiwanese publication Economic Daily News , suggest that a new model is due later in 2018 and will use 8th-generation Kaby Lake Refresh processors. These i5 and i7 quad-core CPUs were released late in 2017 and have base clock speeds ranging from 1.6GHz to 1.9GHz, with Turbo Boost speeds between 3.4GHz and 4.2GHz. This is obviously faster than the chipsets from 2015, but is it enough of an upgrade? About timing According to Economic Daily News, Apple isn’t keen on waiting until 2019 for Intel’s Cannon Lake chips (which use a 10nm process rather 14nm, greatly improving power, performance, and heat efficiency). Apparently, Apple isn’t even willing to wait for Intel’s Whiskey Lake processo

Japan Box Office: Mamoru Hosoda's MIRAI Shows 28% Drop in Its 2nd Weekend

Image
Probably due to mostly mixed reviews by critics and audience, Mamoru Hosoda ( The Girl Who Leapt Through Time , Summer Wars )'s latest feature film Mirai no Mirai/Mirai of The Future/MIRAI earned a modest 289 million yen on 215,000 admissions in the weekend of July 28-29, which was 28% down from its opening weekend gross.   Back in July 2015, his previous film Bakemono no Ko/The Boy and the Beast  already made 1.9 billion yen from its first two-week run, about as twice as that of MIRAI . Judging from its misfired two-weekend results, it can be forecast that MIRAI would end its domestic run with about 2-2.5 billion yen, less than half of The Boy and the Beast 's total domestic gross of 5.85 billion yen.   Meanwhile, Detective Conan: Zero the Enforcer finally goes out of top 10 for the first time in its 16th weekend, but still holding its 11th place. The 22nd Conan feature film has earned a massive 8.58 billion yen in Japan, and has already become not only the top-grossi

INGRESS THE ANIMATION Blurs Boundaries with Real Time Story Event

Image
INGRESS THE ANIMATION , an upcoming TV anime based on the reality-hacking AR smart phone game from Niantic ( Pokémon GO ), is blurring the boundaries of media with a "real time story" event that serves as a prequel of sorts and reveals the backstory for the anime's three main characters: Makoto, Sarah, and Jack.     The "real time story" event will lead up to the broadcast of the first episode of INGRESS THE ANIMATION , and players will be charged with collecting story fragments from different portals and unravelling a mystery by piecing the story fragments together. The exact rules and details of the event will be revealed on the official Ingress Twitter feed ( @ingress ) and other websites at a later date.     Additionally, a new cast member was revealed: Hiroo Sasaki will provide the voice for Hank Johnson, an archaeologist.     Niantic describes the story of the Ingress smart phone game as follows:   This world around you is not what it s
