Evangelion's Anime OP "Cruel Angel's Thesis" Gets The Japanese Festival Treatment

Evangelion is one of the most popular anime of all time. With the original series recently released on Netflix and Evangelion 3.0+1.0 starting its marketing push, the franchise has been on a high. But with nearly every aspect of Japanese life overtaken by this behemoth of a franchise, what else was there to conquer?

 

Well, the traditional Japanese matsuri (festival), of course! Summer in Japan is synonymous with three things, humidity, cicadas, and the local matsuri, held literally everywhere. If there is a town or local city in Japan, they will be holding their variation of a matsuri during the summer time. That includes every district in Tokyo.

 

 

Tokyo's Marunouchi district is where you'd usually find salarymen in suits and is the home (and seat) of the Imperial family. Not really the first place you'd think you'd find anime. Evangelion surprises us once again by not only being at the festival selling the new single from internationally renowned wadaiko (Japanese drums) musician Eitetsu Hayashi, "Cruel Angel's Thesis MATSURI SPIRIT", but being the star of the festival. With everyone getting into and dancing to the song like they would at a traditional Bon Odori in front of the iconic Tokyo Station!

 

 

The music video for "Cruel Angel's Thesis MATSURI SPIRIT" was released on July 6 before the release of the single on July 24. 

 

You can dance along with Evangelion at the 7th Nakano Bon-Odori in front of Nakano Station on August 11-12. You could even visit Nakano Broadway while you're there!

Pump Iron Like a Pirate in Tokyo's Official One Piece Gym

  Calling all swole swashbucklers! If you're one of the countless folks who find that anime takes working out to the next level, you'll want to keep your eyes on a gym that's getting ready to open in Tokyo. Yotsuba&! Art Exhibition Gets Whimsical in Yokohama in October

  Residents of Yokohama in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan will soon have the opportunity to "enjoy everything", because an art exhibition dedicated to Kiyohiko Azuma's Yotsuba&! , an everyday comedy manga about the gentle adventures of an adopted 5 year old girl, will open there soon.   The Kiyohiko Azuma "YOTSUBA&!" Exhibition of Original Manga Drawings will run from October 07 - 23, 2022, in the Calendar Room venue on the 7th floor of the Marui City Yokohama shopping center in Takashima, Nishi Ward, Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan.   The installation will include original manga drawings, making-of videos exploring Azuma's creative process, new artwork, and more.
