New Figures Reimagine Evangelion Units As Creepy-Cute Dolls
A lot of adjectives probably come to mind when you think of the Evangelion units as seen in Hideaki Anno's Rebuild of Evangelion, but we're pretty sure "cute" isn't one of them. But Prime 1 Studio begs to differ, adding four of the otherworldly un-robots to their Cutie1 line.
The Cutie1 figures are a bit Identity V-esque, reimagining pop culture icons as zippered, button-eyed rag dolls. Or, rather, as soft vinyl figures resembling rag dolls. The weirdly-cute, big-headed figures can be displayed on their own magnetized bases, and featuring sculpted "stitching" that makes them look like handmade soft toys. Titles like Berserk, My Hero Academia, and Jurassic World have already gotten the Cutie1 treatment.
The new line of Rebuild of Evangelion figures presents takes on the Evangelion Unit-01 (movie version), New Unit-02α, Kai Unit-08γ, and Unit-13:
Pre-orders are now open for all four figures, which are selling for 5,060 yen each (plus tax). Reservations are being accepted via the Evangelion Store and Prime 1 Studio Store. The figures will be on sale from December 2022 to February 2023.
