Case Closed Spinoff Zero's Tea Time Gets Animated in April
Back in October, it was announced that a pair of Case Closed spinoff manga — Zero's Tea Time and The Culprit Hanazawa — would be getting anime adaptations. Today, we've got more info for the former, including a sweet new key visual, opening and ending theme artists, an official website and Twitter account, and a check-in from the voice of the triple-agent himself.
Based on the manga by Takahiro Arai and overseen by original series creator Goshi Aoyama, Zero's Tea Time follows the title character though his multifaceted life. We'll see Zero (a.k.a. Rei Furuya, a.k.a. Tōru Amuro, a.k.a. Bourbon) in his many roles — Café Poirot waiter and private detective, NPA officer, and Black Organization operative.
Check out the new key visual, representing his many faces:
Tōru Furuya will continue to voice the triple agent (whose aliases are a hat tip both to the voice actor himself and his role as Amuro Ray in Mobile Suit Gundam). Furuya's last leading role in an anime was 14 years ago, in 2008's Casshern Sins, and he's excited to take the spotlight again. He says he's been just as anxious to see Zero's Tea Time get animated as fans have been, and looks forward to capturing the character's relaxed charm in the new series.
The opening theme will be "Shooting Star" performed by RAKURA, and the ending theme by Rainy. is titled "Find the Truth."
Tomochi Kosaka (director of ReLIFE and a regular key animator for the Case Closed series and films) will direct the series for TMS Entertainment, with series composition and scripts by Yoshiko Nakamura (Monthly Girls' Nozaki-kun). Kyoko Yoshimi, another Case Closed regular, will handle character designs. Music for the series will be composed by musical duo TOMISIRO (Macross Delta).
Zero's Tea Time will air in Japan on broadcast television in April 2022, with distribution on Netflix Japan also starting in April. The official website and Twitter account are now open.
