Anime Song Singer Maon Kurosaki Passes Away at 35

The official staff Twitter account for singer Maon Kurosaki announced tonight that she suddenly passed away on February 16 due to a worsening of her chronic illness. She was 35. Her family wished to see her off quietly and have already held a private funeral for the musician.

 

Born in Tokyo on January 13, 1988, Maon Kurosaki had been looking to become a performer since her elementary school days. As she got older and her voice was praised by others, she set her heart on becoming a singer. She combined her singing skills and love of anime by performing and working at the popular Dear Stage bar in Akihabara in January 2008, where she was discovered by a producer from Geneon Universal Entertainment.

 

 

Kurosaki made her first major debut with the album H.O.T.D. on September 22, 2010. The album contained all the ending songs she performed from the High School of the Dead TV anime. Her first two major single releases, "Magic∞World" and "Memories Last,” were used as the ending theme songs for the A Certain Magical Index II TV anime, a franchise she truly loved and admired, writing "Memories Last” based on how she empathized with Accelerator and Last Order.

 

Over the following decade, she’d sing theme songs for The Fruit of Grisaia, Accel World: Infinite Burst, Danganronpa 3: The End of Hope's Peak High School, Dances with the Dragons and saw her singles "Gravitation" and "Roar" used as the openings for A Certain Magical Index III in 2019. Kurosaki also made her acting debut in the BLOOD-CLUB DOLLS live-action adaptation of the Blood anime series in 2018.

 

Her latest single "More Strongly,” which was released on November 16, 2022, could be heard as the ending theme song for Reincarnated as a Sword.

 

 

 

 

In the official statement, Kurosaki’s staff noted that she went suddenly during discussions on her next film, what she’ll be working on after the summer and new song release. This comes after Kurosaki collapsed during a live stream in September 2021 and had to undergo emergency surgery for epidural hematoma, which is, according to UCLA Health, when “blood accumulates between the skull and the dura mater, the thick membrane covering the brain." 

 

Maon Kurosaki will be remembered for her outstanding voice, electric personality and connection to fans as a fan of anime herself. May she rest in peace.

    The official website for the stage play adaptation of the 2018 film Bungo Stray Dog DEAD APPLE has posted a three-minute digest clip introducing its main cast members' stage performance.   Bungo Stray Dogs is an action mystery seinen manga series written by Kafka Asagiri and illustrated by Sango Harukawa. Its TV anime adaption animated by Bones was aired for three seasons with a total of 36 episodes from April 2016 to June 2019.
