Sometimes we need a little comedy, slice-of-life, and isekai fusion in our lives. And now you no longer have to worry, Mao and the gang have you covered. Let’s map out our viewing journey before starting Season 2 by highlighting the most important facts we know about the series so far!

It’s Been Almost A Decade

We did our waiting! Almost 10 years of it! In Ente Isla! Can you believe the first season of The Devil is a Part-Timer! was released in 2013? We certainly thought we’d never see the outcome of Maou, Emi, and Chiho’s relationship but here we are with a fresh new season.

You might not have even heard of the series after it first aired, but it was probably on your radar after streaming on Netflix. Fans naturally speculated about a Season 2 production and almost lost hope throughout the nine years of silence — taking solace in light novel volumes Satoshi Wagahara released every year until the end of the series in 2020. And now the wait is officially over!

How Did The First Season End?

The story about a battle between demons and humans is a long-held tradition. But priorities shifted over the course of the first 13 episodes. Satan has become an ordinary citizen of Tokyo while his Demon General Aciel has embraced the role of house-husband. Life-long enemy Emilia lost all her powers and Lucifer became a hikikomori. What capacity for supernatural acts of good or evil did these people hold in their past? It doesn’t matter, they’re only human now.

Paying the bills, working 12-hour shifts, preparing meals, defeating the foes from Ente Isla, working another 12-hour shift, suffering from the stomach flu, going on a date — this is what the life of the former Satan is. It’s comic, domestic and moving, especially when the Season 1 finale drew the line between Maou and Emi. Now Satan and Hero can exchange umbrellas under the heavy rain and let the rest of the world stay still for a while.

It’s A Different Studio This Time

The first season was produced on the base of White Fox studio, which is known for Steins;Gate and Re:ZERO Starting Life in Another World series. The Devil Is A Part-Timer! Season 2 is handled by Studio 3Hz, famed for Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online and Princess Principal releases. The latter studio was founded in 2013 and co-animated some projects with popular companies including Orange and P.A.Works — its style stood out due to distinguished coloring and soft contouring in character designs.

What Volume Is Season 2 Based On?

The first season covered only two volumes of Satoshi Wagahara’s work — there is a lot of story left to tell with 19 more light novels left to adapt. The presence of new (to the anime) character Alas Ramus seems to indicate the story will focus on Volume 3 of the light novel series. Don’t be fooled by the kawaii look of this little girl — Alas Ramus isn't all she seems. At least Satan and Emilia will have plenty of time to solve the riddle that is Alas Ramus since she's claimed them as her father and mother. Maybe this season should be called The Devil is a Co-Parent!

Is Maou Still Working At MgRonald’s?

Yes, of course. Satan is still mastering his skills in the fast-food industry. And he’ll have a lot more responsibility on his shoulders after being promoted to Shift Supervisor last season. A satanic background with striking military ambition might not seem useful in customer service, but it definitely helps Maou keep his composure when he needs to. Now that he’s no longer a part-timer there’s even more of Maou’s antics to love. Will he be up for a promotion this season too? We’ll have to wait and see. In the meantime, don’t forget to order the Big Mig Meal with peppery chips!
