10 Things You Missed In The New Detective Pikachu Trailer!

 header

Just two weeks ago, I took a magnifying glass to a new Detective Pikachu clip, and now it's time to do the same for the latest trailer that came out today. Are you excited? I am. I haven't been this excited about a new Pokémon movie since 1999, when I was begging my Mom to take me to Pokémon: The First Movie and get me one of those sweet, sweet Mew promo cards.

But anyway, here are ten things that you may have missed in the latest Detective Pikachu trailer....

THE GOLURK NEAR THE POLICE STATION

golurk

I know it's a bit hard to see, since the background is a mix of grey and duller grey, but there's a Golurk back there, out in the open, just hanging out. That means that someone was so dedicated to having a Golurk vaguely protect and serve the area that they went all the way to Dragonspiral Tower in Unova, caught one there, brought it back with them, and said "Please stand here and look Golurk-ey and do literally nothing else."

THE ARCANINE NEAR THE POLICE STATION

In the center of the shot are a couple of Growlithes and a Charmander, but off to the sides are some Arcanine. How does evolution work in this particular area of the Detective Pikachu universe? Is it through battling, or was a Growlithe such a good boy, yes he is, that he evolved?

MACHAMP SKIPS LEG DAY

Yes, the Snorlax in this shot is distracting because it's asleep on a pathway, and anyone who's played a Pokémon game knows that there's nothing that Snorlax loves more than to block pedestrian traffic, but look at Machamp here. Do a squat, bro, or maybe even some lunges. I'm not trying to leg shame, but I think it's okay to skip your next chest day.

JIGGLYPUFF LURKING

Jigglypuff appears more prominently later in the trailer, but it's here also, just to remind you that Jigglypuff is always watching...always waiting.

THE NOCTOWL COFFEE

I love the Pokémon signs that are scattered around the trailers, and this might be my favorite. What symbolizes coffee better than a giant owl that....learns Air Slash at level 35. Is it a reference to the fact that, if you drink coffee, you'll be a proverbial night owl? Maybe. Whatever, it's just cool.

THE BEAUTIFUL CHIMECHO

They're kind of blurry and moving around near the bottom of the screen, but there's some Chimecho down there. I've played a lot of Pokémon  but surprisingly, I've never used a Chimecho. When it came to Generation 3 Psychic types, I always went for Ralts or Lunatone. Is Chimecho good? Tell me in the comments.

DJ LOUDRED

If you didn't see this and immediately yell "DJ LOUDRED" with your best DJ Khaled impression, we'll never understand eachother.

THE SINNOH LEGENDARIES IN THE BACKGROUND

sinnoh

Yes, yes, Flareon is very cool, but check out the two statues behind it. You've got Palkia and Dialga back there, two of the legendaries from the Sinnoh region, a region that is beloved by everyone and hated by absolutely no one.

PIKACHU CUSSED

All of my fan fiction is coming true!

 VOLT TACKLE

This is not really a secret, but Volt Tackle is my favorite Electric move, and I'm just happy to see it being used here. Man, this movie is gonna be so rad.
